The Stewarts Creek High School band is set to perform at next month’s inauguration of 47th U.S. President Donald Trump and the 50th U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Washington, D.C.
The high school band was selected by the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee to perform at the 60th Presidential Inaugural Parade on January 20, 2025 shortly after Trump and Vance are officially sworn into office.
The band will represent the Town of Smyrna, Rutherford County Schools, and the State of Tennessee with its appearance at the parade.
Clark Harrell, principal of Stewarts Creek High School, said the band being selected to perform at the inaugural parade is a “true testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication” of the school’s students.
“We’re thrilled to showcase our students at such a prominent national performance and grateful for the ongoing support from the school and community,” Harrell added.
The band, which said it was “honored and excited” for the opportunity to perform at the inaugural parade, has since launched a fundraising campaign to raise the necessary travel and performance-related costs for the trip to D.C. for approximately 200 students, staff, and chaperones.
“We are honored and excited to receive this invitation and for the opportunity to represent the State of Tennessee on this historic occasion,” the band said.
The band’s upcoming trip and performance in D.C. comes eight years after the band traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2016 to perform for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor.
In 2018, the band was also chosen to perform at the dedication ceremony paying tribute to Marine Captain Jeff Kuss, Blue Angel No. 6, who tragically lost his life in Smyrna during training for the Great Tennessee Airshow on June 2, 2016.
